A week in, Miles is still pretty nervous around the puppy, but they are starting to warm up to each other a bit. I'm not sure which one of them is teaching the other about tug of war here, but it's nice to see them getting along!

Year 5, Day 154
After more than a week (!) home sick, if Miles finally falls asleep soundly for the night you let him have it, wherever that resting place might be.
Year 5, Day 153
On the way to swim class tonight, Miles requested to hear the Darkwing Duck theme song, which I didn't really know he was even aware of, let alone that he knew most of the words to it. I found the latter out as he merrily sang along. At the end, I clapped. "That was good!" … Continue reading Year 5, Day 153
Year 5, Day 152
Historically, Miles has always been a cautious observer. He's up for just about anything as long as he can approach it on his own terms -- watching, waiting, and finally engaging when he's ready. Of course, he doesn't always have a say in the terms of engagement, particularly when another independent, willful entity is involved. … Continue reading Year 5, Day 152
Year 5, Day 151
For those wondering, last night at roughly 4:30 AM, Miles executed his Jar-Jar Binks plan. I don't think Jaclyn ever mistook him for "a criminal" as Miles had hoped, but she DID scream at the top of her lungs and, in the next moment, admonish her giggling son for this unholy sleep disruption It was … Continue reading Year 5, Day 151
Year 5, Day 150
As he was climbing into bed last night, Miles suddenly shared with me a plan so nefarious, and specific, that I have to believe he'd been thinking about it all day. First, he grabbed a talking Jar-Jar Binks doll from the lineup sitting on his headboard.. "While Mommy's sleeping, I'm going to sneak up on … Continue reading Year 5, Day 150
Year 5, Day 149
Great news! Today Miles insisted that Brie is not, in fact, the "family's" dog, but is actually HIS dog. Not mine. Not Mommy's. Miles's, and exclusively so. Well you can imagine how proud I was to see such gumption in the young lad! After all, that meant he would be in charge of taking her … Continue reading Year 5, Day 149
Year 5, Day 148
We've had a lot of friends who've had new additions to their families recently, be a first child, second, or two at the same time. And while I've been happy for each of them, the feelings arising in Jaclyn have been...different. Yes, she's happy for the families, but she has also admitted that see all … Continue reading Year 5, Day 148
Year 5, Day 147
A couple mornings ago, Miles woke up complaining that he wasn't feeling well. He did appear a little lethargic and so, in an abundance of caution, we kept him home from daycare. By the middle of the day, neither of us was convinced Miles was actually sick. He was bouncing around the house, interrupting Jaclyn's … Continue reading Year 5, Day 147
Year 5, Day 146
As I was on my way out the door for trivia last night, Miles walked over to me with a special request. "Hey, you got poop in your mouth and poop on your face," he said. Then, clarifying that he wasn't talking about me specifically, "Tell someone that." "What, tell that to someone at trivia?" … Continue reading Year 5, Day 146
