The "nature vs. nurture" debate is as old as child rearing. I'm sure that the key to effective parenting lies somewhere between the two, and I keep this in mind when making virtually any decision involving my son. Case in point: Miles woke up a little early this morning and, after a feeding, got a … Continue reading Day 86

Day 85
We've gotten into a nice routine with the baby over the last three months. And today is the day we kick that routine to the curb. Yes, Jaclyn started back to work today. Which also meant that today was the day our nanny started. Which also meant that I had to get up considerably earlier … Continue reading Day 85
Day 84
Today was a tragic day at the apartamento de Martin, as we had to retire Miles's favorite bedtime onesie. And by that I mean my favorite. It wasn't that it was his cutest or softest bedtime attire; no, this onesie was the most practical piece of baby clothing I've encountered thus far. At first glance, … Continue reading Day 84
Day 83
The only solid food Miles is interested in right now -- his own hand.
Day 82
Jaclyn went out for a friend's birthday tonight, and I took care of getting Miles ready for bed. First, I got him good and hype. Next, I changed his diaper, which disappointingly was poop-free. Then, I found what appeared to be an infant muumuu and threw that on him. At this point, Miles started getting … Continue reading Day 82
Day 81
I take a lot of heat from Jaclyn for getting Miles "fired up" when she's trying to calm him down and get him to sleep. Whatever, I think I'm very encouraging.
Day 80
Every day, Miles gets a little closer to using his hands for something other than attempting to eat them. And today might have been his biggest step forward yet, as he attempted to hold his bottle on his own. He's got a ways to go, but he's actually sort of doing it!
Day 79
One of the things we've been working on the most with Miles is making sure he gets plenty of tummy time. Getting some head lifting reps in each day is crucial if I ever want his neck to get swole. He's typically alternated between tummy time modes: 1) getting in about 10-15 minutes before falling … Continue reading Day 79
Day 78
Miles is definitely learning, at least when it comes to the telltale signs of bedtime. I mentioned previously the growing distinction of Miles's cries, and while it's easy to tell when he's sleepy, it's becoming a little less easy for Miles to tell when he's sleepy. This has yielded the emergence of a new variation … Continue reading Day 78
Day 77: Mother’s Day
This was Jaclyn's first Mother's Day as a mom (and, importantly, my first Mother's Day as a dad). In preparation, I spent about ten minutes looking at cards before I remembered I was supposed to be looking for one that said "wife" on it instead of "mother." I mean...right? Jaclyn isn't my mother, and I'm … Continue reading Day 77: Mother’s Day
