I'm not sure if you've been able to discern this from the multitude of blog posts I've produced on the matter, but raising a toddler is really f***ing hard. When Miles is happy, he's usually running around screaming. When he's upset, he's STILL screaming. Our attention is demanded by him at all times, and about … Continue reading Year 4, Day 159

Year 4, Day 151: Sounds of the Night-time XI
I had a pretty fitful sleep last night, and I spent most of the time between 2:30 and 5:00 in varying degrees of consciousness. During that time, Miles's monitor was almost completely silent, save for one moment around 4:30, when he said, clear as day, "I need you to hold my hand." Pretty amazing that … Continue reading Year 4, Day 151: Sounds of the Night-time XI
Year 4, Day 146
I arrived home from my trivia show last night to find someone up way past his bedtime... Miles was just peering out of his window, waiting for me to pull up in the driveway. I quickly made my way upstairs to find the other half of my family was at least fast asleep. Miles was … Continue reading Year 4, Day 146
Year 4, Day 102
As I was leaving Miles's room last night, I turned back and blew him a kiss. He responded by swatting the kiss out of the air. He then picked the kiss up from the bed where it had fallen and held it up. "I'm gonna throw your kiss in the trash when I wake up," … Continue reading Year 4, Day 102
Year 4, Day 97
I arrived home last night to find the following sight awaiting me in my bed. Yeah, no WAY am I sleeping well tonight.
Year 4, Day 69
Every night before I make my way to bed, I stop in to check on Miles. I tell myself I want to be sure his covers are still on top of him or that he's not in danger of falling out of bed, and these things are true, but I honestly just want to see … Continue reading Year 4, Day 69
Year 4, Day 63
The child sleeps awkwardly, contorted atop a mass of lumpy, misshapen stuffed animals. No wonder he wakes up grumpy every morning.
Year 4, Day 39
Bedtime is often a mixed bag with Miles. He's got particular requests/demands that he makes regularly, such as picking out two books, then hearing two stories, then having his back rubbed, etc. I can be eager to get it over with at times, primarily because, at that point in my day, I really need to … Continue reading Year 4, Day 39
Year 3, Day 349
At bedtime, Miles once again demonstrated that he is absolutely my son: Mommy: "Now I want you to hold your dragon tight, and if you do I bet he'll take you on a big adventure in your dreams." Miles: "I don't wanna go on a big adventure. I just wanna stay home."
Year 3, Day 335
About ten minutes after we put Miles to bed, he started chanting, "I'm not sleeping, Mommy and Daddy!" Gradually he started doing this in a variety of voices and pitches. Weird? Definitely. But hey, it beats screaming and crying. https://videopress.com/v/G4FS9c9u?preloadContent=metadata TURN VOLUME ALL THE WAY UP TO GET THE FULL (OR ANY) EXPERIENCE.
