We went out for a nice family walk this evening. And by "nice," I of course mean Miles had a disagreement about the direction we were going and planted his ass on the ground in protest. "Bye, Miles! We're going home!"

Year 4, Day 94: A Bluey Appreciation Post
Like any young child, Miles loves to watch shows that I can barely tolerate. In the past, I've mentioned my disdain for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Then there's PJ Masks, which is fine, I guess, but not something I'D necessarily want to sit down and watch with him. And then, there's Bluey. https://www.youtube.com/embed/VS5jsksGIM4 Produced in Australia, … Continue reading Year 4, Day 94: A Bluey Appreciation Post
Year 4, Day 65
While trying to 1) find something we could watch together as a family and 2) find ANY alternative to Miles's requests for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I discovered that an animated adaptation of one of his favorite books -- Margaret Wise Brown's The Runaway Bunny -- had dropped on HBO Max sometime this year. Mission accomplished … Continue reading Year 4, Day 65
Year 4, Day 48
We are doing our best to set the expectation for Family Dinner TimeTM in the new house, where we all sit down when dinner is served (it's a work in progress for Miles), eat when food is served (also a work in progress), and chat about our days (talking? NOT a problem for Miles). Miles … Continue reading Year 4, Day 48
Year 3, Day 236
Miles is in full Halloween (and occasionally Easter) mode right now, and we continued to celebrate the season with a small family project this evening, building a haunted gingerbread house. Here's Miles moments before being told that we were BUILDING the house, not EATING the pieces. ...and here he is after. I took care of … Continue reading Year 3, Day 236
Year 3, Day 143
When Miles awoke this morning, he immediately issued a decree. "Mommy! I wanna go to the ice cream shop!" We found his demand to be fair, if slightly unreasonable at 7:00 am, and so we promised that, at the end of the day, we would all go get ice cream. Miles was delighted. So delighted, … Continue reading Year 3, Day 143
Year 3, Day 116
We made an attempt at family movie time today with a viewing of last year's Lion King remake. Two minutes in, Miles said, "Nono...the other one!" (Asking for the original version of the movie. That's my boy!) It wasn't long, however, before he really got into it.
Year 3, Day 36
As we were all reading together last night at bedtime, Miles started talking about one of his favorite things. "Cupcake!" he said. "Do you like cupcakes?" I asked. "Miles eat cupcake!" I nodded, "I remember that! You did eat a cupcake." "Mommy eat cupcake!" "Mommy likes cupcakes too!" Jaclyn agreed. "Daddy eat cupcake!" I nodded. … Continue reading Year 3, Day 36
Year 2, Day 197: The Teething Diaries VIII
An executive decision was made last night in the face of teething-related screaming -- Miles slept in bed with us for the first time. It took a lot of time and positivity to help bring Miles back from the brink of despair over his oral discomfort, but gradually he calmed down. And then, of course, … Continue reading Year 2, Day 197: The Teething Diaries VIII
