About a week ago, Jaclyn sent me a text reading, "Did you want to go strawberry picking at all?" This being, to the best of my recollection, the very first time we've ever discussed it, I replied, "Do you seriously think that's something I've ever given one second of thought to?" Anyway, this morning we … Continue reading Year 4, Day 80

Year 4, Day 79
Miles's friend Audrey came up for a visit this weekend, and he was really excited to see her...until she actually arrived at the house. Then it was all "No, MY room!" and "No! MY toys!" This is essentially how he looked for two straight hours. He came around after a while though, letting a very … Continue reading Year 4, Day 79

Part of my job at a learning center involved performing learning ability assessments for both prospective and current students. The battery can feel a bit intimidating, especially brand new clients whose previous experience with "testing" has been unsavory at best and a showcase of everything they're challenged with at worst. As a means to help … Continue reading Year 4, Day 78
Year 4, Day 77
With a gas crisis striking the East Coast this week, Jaclyn and I are trying to pare down the amount of driving we have to do, which is only relevant because it resulted in me being the one to pick Miles up after daycare yesterday, an occasion upon which I was delivered some unexpectedly clandestine … Continue reading Year 4, Day 77
Year 4, Day 76
As children with overactive imaginations are wont to do, Miles has started talking about some sort of ghoulish figure plaguing his thoughts. At first, he "saw him in the window," then he was "in the closet." Miles has even yelled his name to us when running around the house playing, as though the mere mention … Continue reading Year 4, Day 76
Year 4, Day 75
Those who know me well (or have at the very least helped me move at some point) know that I have a vast number of artifacts from throughout my life that I have, for one reason or another*, refused to part with. I've always told myself I would one day either A) sell these items … Continue reading Year 4, Day 75
Year 4, Day 74
During some drawing/writing time this evening: Jaclyn: "What letter is that?" Miles: "What is it?" Jaclyn: "You tell me!" Miles: "No, YOU tell ME!" Later, to prove he knows some of his letters, he insisted on adding a 'h' to my name. I've got to hand it to him. Most people forget the 'h.'

We went out for brunch at a nearby spot (Cafe 100) this morning to celebrate Mother's Day, and despite Miles's tendency towards acting like a fool out in public lately, we actually had a great, relaxing meal! And...yeah...Miles acted like a fool a bit too. But at least we were outside!
Year 4, Day 72
Miles insisted on helping me grill food this weekend, and I -- perhaps foolishly -- introduced him to the tongs. YOU try cooking while a crazed three-year-old is chasing you with tongs.
Year 4, Day 71
Miles excitedly stepped out of daycare this afternoon to greet Jaclyn at pick-up. "Happy Mother's Day!" he said proudly, holding out the gifts he had acquired and/or created for her. Jaclyn's heart was warmed, and Miles reveled in her joy for just a moment before declaring that he wanted the gifts back.
