We made an attempt at family movie time today with a viewing of last year's Lion King remake. Two minutes in, Miles said, "Nono...the other one!" (Asking for the original version of the movie. That's my boy!) It wasn't long, however, before he really got into it.

Year 3, Day 115
As his vocabulary grows and he develops a greater understanding of verbal communication, Miles has latched onto a number of frequently used phrases. "That's a big one." "I want ice cream." The perennial favorite, "NO." There is one, however, that is a bit vexing: "Ow-wee, ow-wee, ow-wee!" Obviously we want to know when Miles is … Continue reading Year 3, Day 115
Year 3, Day 114
Not a day goes by anymore that Miles fails to request (to put it mildly) one of two things. When we pick him up from daycare, and before arriving home, Miles will insistently say, "I want ice cream. I want donuts." This week, at different times, he has received both. The road to our ice … Continue reading Year 3, Day 114
Year 3, Day 113
The very first things I heard this morning: MILES (over the monitor): "UGHHHH...MY PENIS..." JACLYN (groggy, waking up): "SIGH, I knew he was going to wet the bed..."
Year 3, Day 112
While he still refers to us primarily as "mommy" and "daddy," Miles has learned our actual names. And as of tonight, I can confirm that he knows precisely the time to use them. As an increasingly opinionated little man, Miles is quick to let us know what he does and doesn't like. There may be … Continue reading Year 3, Day 112
Year 3, Day 111
Miles's desire for silence has gotten out of hand. When spending time outside after school today, Miles grew tired of the bird calls coming from a nearby tree. "TREE!" he shouted, cupping his hand around his mouth to maximize effect. "BE. QUIET!" I'm not sure how much luck he's going to have with that one.
Year 3, Day 110: Sounds of the Night-time VII
Last night was a restless one for me or Jaclyn. Miles managed to sleep pretty well, thankfully, with the exception of an incident around 4:30 in the morning. As I was tossing and turning in bed, the relative silence was pierced as Miles's voice suddenly came blaring through the monitor."I don't want it! I don't … Continue reading Year 3, Day 110: Sounds of the Night-time VII
Year 3, Day 109
We went over to our friends' place for dinner tonight, and while he has been there with us before, Miles was delighted to learn (again) that they have a lot of animals on their property. "They have chickens!" Jaclyn said. "And bunnies." "And horsies!" Miles added. I shook my head. "Well...don't get your hopes up … Continue reading Year 3, Day 109
Year 3, Day 108
Now that Miles is getting reacquainted with daily car rides, he has discovered a new nemesis or, at least, now possesses the capacity to verbally articulate his disdain. It will happen as we make a turn in the morning or afternoon and suddenly a part of the car interior that was once shrouded in soothing shadow … Continue reading Year 3, Day 108
Year 3, Day 107
First thing this morning, Miles had a doctor's appointment to remove the stitches he received after his fall over the weekend. He was thrilled to hear about this when he woke up. "I no wanna go see a doctor!" he complained. While Jaclyn was with him in the hospital on Friday night, it fell upon … Continue reading Year 3, Day 107
