Year 3, Day 319

Miles isn't great at video games yet, but he has discovered that there are certain areas on Super Mario Bros. 2 where he can "split the character" between both ends of the screen, a detail he found endlessly amusing. A reminder that success in video games is, at times, subjective.

Year 3, Day 267

Miles and I played a spirited game of hide & seek this evening. He's getting pretty good at the "seek" half of it , at least.

Year 3, Day 266

As I've mentioned previously, Miles loves mysteries. After he had a rough morning getting out of the house, I tried to cheer him up by tapping into this interest on the ride to daycare. "Look!" Miles exclaimed as he does almost every morning. "It's the football stadium!" "You found it!" I said. "You solved the … Continue reading Year 3, Day 266 →

Year 3, Day 249

With the looming risk of COVID infection being far scarier than the ghouls and beasts typical of the season, we opted not to take Miles trick-or-treating for Halloween this year. Instead, we threw a fairly exclusive party for Miles and some of his closest friends. Even though the party had a limited guest list, Miles … Continue reading Year 3, Day 249 →

Year 3, Day 244

Tonight was...not great. Mommy had work to be doing, daddy just wanted to finish his dinner, and Miles was trapped in that hellish point in the day where he's too tired to stay up but too unwilling to go to sleep, resulting in crying fits where nothing we did, regardless of how explicitly we conformed … Continue reading Year 3, Day 244 →

Year 3, Day 220

Getting out of the house in the morning is, at best, a complete fiasco. Just as I was ready to leave today, I looked down at the bench and realized something was missing. "Where are my socks?" I asked frantically. Miles rounded the corner from the kitchen and beckoned me to follow. He walked all … Continue reading Year 3, Day 220 →

Year 3, Day 204

Two-thirds of the people living in our house absolutely HATE getting out of bed in the morning. Jaclyn's felt more tired than usual lately, which means that we're much closer to 100% at this point and that getting out the door for work in the morning has started to turn into a mad rush. Considering … Continue reading Year 3, Day 204 →

Year 3, Day 196

One of Miles's current favorite activities is underscored every time he issues an emphatic call to action: "We gotta solve a mystery!" I'm not sure which of the shows he watches resulted in this specific interest, but as a fan of the genre I'm delighted to know that Miles has developed an interest in the … Continue reading Year 3, Day 196 →

Year 3, Day 162

Miles has started throwing around the phrase "One more time!" pretty liberally. When we're playing and I do something funny? "One more time!" When we've just finished running around from playing Naked Baby after bath time? "One more time!" When I give Miles a potato chip? "One more, daddy!" Of course, it's never "one more … Continue reading Year 3, Day 162 →

Year 3, Day 153

One of Miles's new favorite things to do on our drives to and from daycare is to point out Bank of America Stadium as we drive past. "Daddy!" he'll call from the backseat. "Gonna see the football stadium!" We've talked about the sport, the fact that the team that plays there is called the Panthers, … Continue reading Year 3, Day 153 →
