Miles got a haircut today, then went out for ice cream with his buddy Duke. He actually taught Duke how to eat his first ice cream cone! And of course Miles ate his "Superman ice cream, with sprinkles" without ending up wearing a substantial portion of it. Kidding. Of course he ended up wearing it.

Year 3, Day 188
While we're still largely keeping Miles's time outside the house limited to daycare and playing in the yard, we're doing our best to make sure he stays in touch with his friends elsewhere in the world. Yesterday, Miles chatted with his Canadian pen pal, Eamon. They were able to discuss their mutual love of Elmo. … Continue reading Year 3, Day 188
Year 3, Day 179
There's been nothing short of a deluge of babies arriving for friends of ours over the last couple weeks, and today we paid a visit to one of them, taking Miles to meet his friend Duke's new baby brother. Even if the baby visit was more for us, Miles still had a lot of fun … Continue reading Year 3, Day 179
Year 3, Day 129
I had to work (AT work) today, but Miles was out of daycare for the holiday and I sadly missed out on his first actual play date with a friend from school. There was pizza, cookies, cupcakes, and plenty of outside time. I'm told Miles did a good job sharing (thanks in no small part, … Continue reading Year 3, Day 129
Year 3, Day 123
Miles got a rare treat today, as it was moving day for a couple of our friends and we agreed to help out by taking care of their tiny dog, Taco. As soon as he woke up this morning, Miles said, "Taco coming!" As with all dogs, Miles was absolutely giddy for the first few … Continue reading Year 3, Day 123
Year 3, Day 109
We went over to our friends' place for dinner tonight, and while he has been there with us before, Miles was delighted to learn (again) that they have a lot of animals on their property. "They have chickens!" Jaclyn said. "And bunnies." "And horsies!" Miles added. I shook my head. "Well...don't get your hopes up … Continue reading Year 3, Day 109
Year 3, Day 91
Since the quarantine started, day to day life in the house hasn't been easy. Not only has it been next to impossible for us to work full-time and take care of Miles simultaneously, but Miles is continuing to grow and develop, and we've been persistently worried about his engagement during the day. As frustrating as … Continue reading Year 3, Day 91
Year 3, Day 61
Today, in preparation for a friend's remote birthday celebration, we introduced Miles to sidewalk chalk and, frankly, I don't know what took us so long.
Year 3, Day 50
We've tried to make time to video chat with friends during this bizarre period of isolation, and for Miles that means conferencing with his best friend: his babysitter Lisa. "Issa!" he'll say when we suggest calling her. Of course, the moment we have her on video with him, Miles wants to see someone else, "Uncle … Continue reading Year 3, Day 50
Year 3, Day 25
An unfortunate by-product of the coronavirus pandemic: Miles had to miss out on the social event of the month, as we stayed in Charlotte this weekend instead of traveling to Myrtle Beach for Audrey's second birthday. He woke up this morning saying, "Audrey! Birthday!" and then singing "Happy Birthday" to her. Fortunately, we were able … Continue reading Year 3, Day 25
