Some friends from Europe came to visit this weekend, and Miles found a new hiding place when they arrived. Thankfully, he warmed up to them eventually.

Year 2, Day 270
Today is my FORTIETH birthday, and while I'm not always big on celebrating this sort of thing (last weekend not withstanding), there was absolutely no way I would've rather woken up today than hearing Miles merrily singing, "Haaa-bee deh do-doo! Haaa-bee deh do-doo!" as he walked into our bedroom this morning.
Year 2, Day 269
This morning, Miles and I departed the house like any other day. Jaclyn leaned in for a kiss, Miles complied, and they both waved at each other. And then Miles pointed to Jaclyn. "Dog," he said. "What?" Jaclyn said, incredulously. "I'm not a dog! I'm mommy!" "Dog," Miles repeated. Jaclyn laughed, shrugged, and let the … Continue reading Year 2, Day 269
Year 2, Day 268
I received a text during my trivia show tonight that read, "Miles might have learned some curse words tonight." My initial assumption was that he had finally picked up some undesirable language from his sailor-mouthed mother. The reality was, thankfully, more adorable.
Year 2, Day 267
Miles really loves pointing out facial features on himself and others ("Eyes!" "Nose!" etc). Sadly, it appears he's still learning how each of these uniquely function, as he tried eating pasta with his eyes and forehead last night.
Year 2, Day 266
Today, as has been the case most afternoons over the last week, Miles came home and requested not Elmo, not Clifford, but Star Wars to play while he eats his dinner. He's now seen the first 30 or so minutes of the original movie four or five times. After dinner tonight, Miles darted into our … Continue reading Year 2, Day 266
Year 2, Day 265
As nice as it was to have a little time away, it felt really good to come home to Miles today. It took him a second after we walked in, but once he realized we were actually back home he scurried over for hugs. The best part of the afternoon, however, was family naptime.
Year 2, Day 264
Jaclyn and I did not talk with Miles on the phone at any point today, and with good reason. Our call last night...well, didn't go great. As I walked in on Jaclyn's call from our bedroom at the cabin, I could hear Miles giggling on the other end of the phone. I interjected with a … Continue reading Year 2, Day 264
Year 2, Day 263
My fortieth birthday is looming just over the horizon, and several months back Jaclyn made it clear that I needed to keep this weekend free of commitments. She offered no information beyond this. I've been distracted with work and general life lately, but I've still done a little detective work with regard to this weekend's … Continue reading Year 2, Day 263
Year 2, Day 262
On a recent trip back to Myrtle Beach, Miles acquired three different puzzles that formerly belonged to my cousin's son. One puzzle depicts a fire truck, another the letters of the alphabet, and the third a variety of animals. Miles absolutely loves these puzzles, can identify many of the pieces, and is even getting pretty … Continue reading Year 2, Day 262
