Year 5, Day 63

For Family Movie Night this week, Miles asked to watch “a Star Wars movie with Luke, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader in it.” Wouldn’t you know, I had JUST the movie.

Miles has watched a lot of bits and pieces of Star Wars movies over the years, but I think this may be the first time he’s sat in one place and watched a whole one from beginning to end. Knowing he was at last “ready” for such an undertaking, I figured this was the right time to start his proper Star Wars cinematic journey in the only place it was ever going to begin — with Episode IV – A New Hope.

By the third act, Miles had his head down and he was clearly getting sleepy. When I even suggested we might pause and return to it tomorrow, he snapped back, “No. I want to watch it.” And so we did, all the way to the ending.

After it was over, Miles insisted on reading one of the books he has based on the movie, reliving the adventure before he finally went to sleep. Before that, however, I did have a couple questions:

When I asked him about his favorite part, Miles was quick to respond, “The part when they fall in the trash.” And on the topic of his favorite character, “Darth Vader,” he said. “It’s always Darth Vader.”
