Jaclyn’s big birthday request this year was Sunday brunch from Ruby Sunshine, a franchise out of New Orleans that opened at location here last year (but…you know…COVID has kept us away from). And despite it being Jaclyn’s birthday, I think we all indulged a little for this meal.
When I posited a few food options to Miles, his choice came quickly: the White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes, filled with white chocolate and cinnamon and topped with a white chocolate whiskey sauce.
“Wow,” I said. “Well…that’s a solid choice.”

I can’t remember the last time I saw him sit and eat so voraciously (and obediently), and he made short work out of the food that only barely qualified as “breakfast.” And as soon as he swallowed the last bite, he looked up at us and said, “I didn’t like it.”
We called him out pretty quickly on that obvious lie.
