As we were getting in the car to go to daycare this morning, Miles immediately noticed the large storage box next to him in the backseat, a kit full of testing materials for my job.
“What that?” he asked, pointing.
“Oh, that’s something for work,” I said. “It’s a test that I use when I work with kids.” Realizing that Miles really doesn’t have any idea what I do for a living, I elaborated. “Did you know that daddy works with kids?”
“Yeah,” he said in a way that made it clear he did not know that.
“Well I do a test with kids first, and then after that I help them learn to read.”
“Miles likes readin’!” he exclaimed.
“Do you want to learn how to read?”
“Yeah!”
“Well someday soon I can help you learn how, too.”
