Year 2, Day 37

Miles is still operating on a fairly limited vocabulary (the word “buh,” for instance, stands for everything from “ball” to “bird,” while “duh” stands in for “dog,” “that,” there,” and pretty much everything else). It’s less about the words he uses than the way he uses them. Inflection and context are key parts of understanding what he really means.

Still, I can’t help but feel a small degree of satisfaction at the fact that “Da!” has become his most frequent expression when he’s playing, cutting up, or generally happy and is also what he calls me. And what does he say when he’s getting testy and starting to fuss?

“Ma!”

Like I said…the words aren’t important…really…
