Day 309

In a lot of ways, 2018 has been a pretty lousy year. To elucidate, in mostly chronological order:

  • My teacher, friend, and mentor of over 20 years passed away
  • My hometown was hit by two hurricanes and my parents’ neighborhood flooded, destroying a number of homes
  • I went into septic shock and spent three days in the hospital
  • Jaclyn’s grandmother passed away on Thanksgiving
  • Our car was stolen a week later
  • It was then recovered…two days after we had already purchased a new one

BUT…

So, all things considered, it wasn’t such a bad year. Sometimes life ebbs more than it flows, and it’s true that we tend to dwell on the worst parts of any experience, but Miles has brought such a pronounced sense of joy and purpose to my life that it’s made all the bad just a little more bearable.
