In a lot of ways, 2018 has been a pretty lousy year. To elucidate, in mostly chronological order:
- My teacher, friend, and mentor of over 20 years passed away
- My hometown was hit by two hurricanes and my parents’ neighborhood flooded, destroying a number of homes
- I went into septic shock and spent three days in the hospital
- Jaclyn’s grandmother passed away on Thanksgiving
- Our car was stolen a week later
- It was then recovered…two days after we had already purchased a new one
BUT…
- My son was born
So, all things considered, it wasn’t such a bad year. Sometimes life ebbs more than it flows, and it’s true that we tend to dwell on the worst parts of any experience, but Miles has brought such a pronounced sense of joy and purpose to my life that it’s made all the bad just a little more bearable.
