In light of the holiday and our trip to Rochester, it has been nearly two weeks since Miles last attended daycare. In that time, we’ve shared highs and lows, laughs and tears, and I think Miles and I in particular really strengthened our bond in that time. It’s really something to have someone in your life who gives you the biggest, most sincere smile you’ve ever seen every time they lay eyes on you.
Miles has always been pretty responsive to daycare, likely because we started him so early that he was still unaware of things like “normalcy” and “routines.” In fact, he has a reputation as the most chill kid in his daycare class, proving largely unflappable despite any chaos that might be erupting around him.
Well today was a different story. Two weeks together seem to have established a new set of expectations involving daily routines and the amount of time being spent with mom and dad. Today Miles burst into tears the second I passed him off, reaching for me and contorting his body to get as close as he could, hoping to grab a hold of my shirt. It was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking.
I just shrugged. “Well, I guess he’s finally attached to daddy!”
