Miles may not like long walks (he always "gets tired" and demands to be carried), but show him a playground and suddenly he finds those legs once again fully functional.

Year 4, Day 338
While Jaclyn enjoyed a birthday all-girls vineyard crawl today, I was on Miles duty, taking him to German school, picking him up, taking him out for lunch, and generally gallivanting around town. At one point, Miles observed we were close to our old neighborhood and asked to see the house we used to live in. … Continue reading Year 4, Day 338
Year 4, Day 275
Grammy, Papa, and Uncle Ben headed home today, but before they left, Grammy was determined to have Miles show her around the neighborhood playground. It was a request he fulfilled with zeal and éclat. While also evidently filming a hip-hop video. On the playground, Miles was able to demonstrate just how active and versatile he … Continue reading Year 4, Day 275
Year 4, Day 262
It's a weekend for road trips for us, and today we headed to Asheboro for a long-delayed trip to the North Carolina Zoo. Meeting our friends Amy and Chris with their kids (and Miles's buddies), we set off on a day of walking. LOTS of walking. The zoo is split into a "North America" section … Continue reading Year 4, Day 262
Year 4, Day 54
Miles on a recent trip to our neighborhood playground, just after I told him that he needed to stop running through the carefully landscaped bushes and grabbing all the pine straw. Just over there acquainting himself with teen angst.
Year 3, Day 360
Just a little dude, getting down on the playground.
Year 3, Day 222
We visited a new (to us) park today, and Miles was quickly drawn to the extremely nice, Hornets-sponsored basketball court adjacent to the playground. He pointed as we crossed the field leading to it. A handful of older kids were playing on the court. "Play basketball," Miles said. "I don't know if you can play … Continue reading Year 3, Day 222
Year 3, Day 215
We all got out for a little bit today and hit up a couple parks for walking and...whatever this is. Some playground equipment is clearly designed by psychos. Perhaps the most exciting part of the excursion, however, was the time we got to spend with Miles's babysitter and the baby she is now sitting for … Continue reading Year 3, Day 215
Year 3, Day 194
With the governor loosening some COVID restrictions this past week, playgrounds have finally reopened. Miles could not be happier about it, especially considering we were headed to a park in Black Mountain this morning. TAKE ME TO THE SLIDE! After a nice walk around the lake, Miles got to experience the joys (and initial trepidation) … Continue reading Year 3, Day 194
Year 2, Day 321
After a few days of rain, we were finally able to get Miles out of the house and take him to the park today. It was like releasing caged animal back into the wild. While he loved the opportunity to just run around the playground, he gravitated towards two things in particular -- an animal … Continue reading Year 2, Day 321
