The initial reason we came to Rochester this week was for a wedding, but fate can lead us in unexpected directions. Jaclyn's grandmother passed away on Thanksgiving, which suddenly meant that this trip was going to involve another, more somber family event. Miles is a relatively happy kid and he obviously had zero context for … Continue reading Day 278: Baby’s First Funeral

Day 256
A couple days ago, I got video proof of Miles's adoration of his father. Looks like he doesn't want to play favorites after all!
Day 254
As Miles has started babbling more and more, it's become a race to see exactly which sound (of the only two really important ones) he'll make first: "da-da" or "ma-ma." Which parent won? Let's go to the tape!
Day 242: Sounds of the Night-time V: Now with Actual Sound!
Miles woke up a bit fussy last night, so I got up and held him a little before setting him back down in his Pack 'n' Play with some toys. At this point, his crying turned into...well, give it a listen.
Day 235
Jaclyn had a salon appointment tonight, which didn't sound like a particularly fun way for Miles and me to spend our evening. I clearly underestimated Miles's affinity for plush leather chairs.
Day 225
Our new place may not feel like much of a home yet, but that hasn't stopped Miles from having a blast with it. If nothing else, he's a big fan of the acoustics in the house. With sparse objects around and nothing on the walls, Miles has discovered that his voice will bounce around whatever … Continue reading Day 225
Day 120
Miles has now met Pooh Bear, and this video perfectly captures his reaction when meeting anyone new: 1) size up, 2) make whale noises, 3) touch, 4) attempt to devour.
Day 90
Miles was full of adorable noises today! In fact, I tried to get some video of it. Made a second attempt a few minutes later. At least I know he's got solid comedic timing. A little "Farrelly Bros" for my tastes, but quality nonetheless.
Day 73
Miles said his first word today! This morning, Jaclyn greeted him with a "Hi!" when he woke up, and he absolutely said, "Hi!" back to her. Okay, okay, maybe he just happened to make a noise that managed to sound like "hi," but this kid still loves to babble. Much of this babbling is done … Continue reading Day 73
Day 57
As mentioned previously, Miles loves to suck. As his dexterity has improved, he's really taken a liking to sucking on his wrist. Tonight, Jaclyn and I were trying to watch ONE GODDAMN HOUR OF TELEVISION when we were interrupted by some of the most obnoxious sucking noises in history. Have a listen (things really get … Continue reading Day 57
