Tragedy struck last night, as our AC stopped blowing cool air. Certainly a problem moving into what by all accounts will be a brutally hot week, Jaclyn woke up Saturday morning immediately looking for a service provider. Miles, of course, had his own thoughts. "Well Daddy can fix it," he reasoned. "Daddy doesn't know how … Continue reading Year 5, Day 106

Year 4, Day 32
We all met at the old house after work today to pack up the last few things and say goodbye. I think Miles is starting to understand, in some way, that the new house is "home" now. He did take one last run around the porch (and check out the bird's nest) while we were … Continue reading Year 4, Day 32
Year 4, Day 31
After moving our furniture yesterday, this morning marked the first time we've woken up in the new house. Jaclyn and I crashed hard last night, our bodies tired from the day (weeks, really) of moving, and we were not at all ready when Miles, lacking a childproof knob cover on his bedroom door, came striding … Continue reading Year 4, Day 31
Year 3, Day 85
When parenting* during the workday, Jaclyn and I do our best to tag team. One of us (which, given the number of meetings I have on a given day, is usually me) sequesters ourself in another room while the other (which, sadly, is usually Jaclyn) sits at the dining table to work and care for … Continue reading Year 3, Day 85
Year 3, Day 43
What day is it? How long, exactly, have we been stuck indoors? I ask myself these questions every day, sometimes more than once. I have mixed feelings about being stuck at home amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. For one thing, I hate working from home. Hate it. The root of this feeling can be summed up … Continue reading Year 3, Day 43
Year 3, Day 34
Miles took time out of his morning to scream at the workers installing a sidewalk on our street. "NO, MOVE!" he yelled. It's essentially the toddler equivalent of "GET OFFA MY LAWN YOU!"
Year 2, Day 365
We were on our ride home from daycare this evening when I let Miles know we were almost back at the house. "Issa," Miles said. He may not be fully aware of the days of the week or how a calendar works, but he clearly still recognized that today was the day he typically sees … Continue reading Year 2, Day 365
Year 2, Day 265
As nice as it was to have a little time away, it felt really good to come home to Miles today. It took him a second after we walked in, but once he realized we were actually back home he scurried over for hugs. The best part of the afternoon, however, was family naptime.
Year 2, Day 226
Miles looked through the glass door and saw his babysitter approaching just after we arrived home tonight. He immediately did this: And yet, the second she mentioned going outside to look for birds, Miles embraced her, turned back to me, and said, "Bye-bye!" with a dismissive wave. Talk about mixed signals.
Year 2, Day 211
Miles had an exceedingly restless night, and although there are a number of factors that can currently contribute to this, it wasn't far into the day before I found out the real culprit. I got the call at work -- Miles had a fever and needed to be picked up from daycare. The staff at … Continue reading Year 2, Day 211
