As I left for trivia tonight, Miles ran over to the car and said, "I'm gonna sit on your lap!" then clambered on up. I tell ya, this kid gets one taste of life behind the wheel and suddenly he thinks he's Dom Toretto.

Year 4, Day 179
Miles went through most of his infancy without really developing a tendency to cram things into his mouth. As such, it's been surprising recently to find that Miles is suddenly very interested in sucking on all of his fingers. And even though I've been paying very close attention to this behavior and have been trying … Continue reading Year 4, Day 179

Tonight, in an attempt to squeak in one bit of joy before the world grinds to a halt again, Jaclyn and I attended our first concert since the Before Times, finally seeing Alanis Morissette and Garbage after the show was postponed in June of 2020. Despite the looming danger of the Delta Variant, we were … Continue reading Year 4, Day 177

As Miles clambered into the car after daycare today, he insisted on holding onto his lunch bag. "There's a surprise in there!" he said sneakily. I stepped around and took my own seat, and Miles persisted. "It's a seee-cret!" "Okay Miles," I said, playing along. "What's in your lunch bag?" Before... ...and after! "Look!" he … Continue reading Year 4, Day 176

While we were staying with Jaclyn's aunt, the doorstop for the bedroom door in the guest house quickly went missing. While we pondered the object's fate for the duration of our stay, I assumed Miles must've gotten it mixed up with the toys he was playing with. Well, guess what we found after unpacking his … Continue reading Year 4, Day 174

It takes approximately nine and a half hours to drive from our home to Princeton, NJ. At least that's what Google Maps says, but it's worth noting that they don't have an "adjust time for toddler" button. If they did, that number would swell to somewhere around 15 hours. Spending hours on end confined to … Continue reading Year 4, Day 173
Year 4, Day 172
We started the long trek back to Charlotte today, but not before Miles took care of feeding the chickens one last time after Uncle Randy showed him where the cracked corn was. He even managed to get some IN the coop. After that, it was hours upon hours in the car as we slowly crawled … Continue reading Year 4, Day 172
Year 4, Day 171
Vacation is obviously a time for relaxation. ...just look at this kid. But it isn't all fun and games, and Miles was once again put to work this evening. This time, he was tasked with picking peaches, and he executed this zealously, darting around amid showering fruit, wholly unconcerned by the potential for getting beaned … Continue reading Year 4, Day 171
