With a child now in the picture, this season has seen us immersing ourselves in Christmas music more than ever before. And yet, despite my best attempts to get Miles to fall in love with "The Twelve Pains of Christmas" or that Bob and Doug McKenzie number, the lad has already started developing his own … Continue reading Day 296: Miles’s Top Five Christmas Jams

Day 295
I had an early meeting this morning, and Jaclyn and I decided it would be best if we waited until after that to take Miles to daycare. It felt weird leaving first thing in the morning without Miles in tow, and it was a little more difficult getting out the door with his smiling face … Continue reading Day 295
Day 294 — Miles v. Santa Claus: Dawn of Christmas
Today, Miles finally crossed paths with that Paragon of Presents, that Emperor of Elves, that...Holiness of Holidays (?) himself -- Santa Claus. Legion Brewing hosted Mr. Kringle for a Sunday brunch, and it was an opportunity Jaclyn and I knew we couldn't pass up. Brunch, beer, AND Santa? Everybody leaves happy! Except, of course, Miles, … Continue reading Day 294 — Miles v. Santa Claus: Dawn of Christmas
Day 293
We were out at dinner tonight when Miles leaned over the side of his high chair and evidently discovered his shadow for the first time. He spent the next several minutes waving at it.
Day 292
Whether motivated by love and a desire to spend time with his parents or a gradually intensifying thirst for vengeance after being left with his babysitter for the last three nights, Miles decided it would be great for everyone to wake up for two solid hours in the middle of the night. He fussed, he … Continue reading Day 292
Day 291
Miles is having a long week. He may have gotten some extra time with his mom and dad on Monday due to the weather, but Tuesday and Wednesday nights he was back to business as usual, spending the evenings with his babysitter. And although Thursday nights generally bring with them a return to family time, … Continue reading Day 291
Day 290
Some days I pick Miles up from daycare and he promptly falls asleep in the backseat. Other days, he starts fussing and whining as soon as he's buckled in. Most days, though, he just sits there and babbles.
Day 289
While it's true that Miles really cuts loose with the wailing when either Jaclyn or I leave him with his babysitter, never believe for one second that these tears last. The second we're out of earshot, it's back to dancing!
Day 288
This is what it looks like when I project my hopes and expectations onto my child.
Day 287: Baby’s First Christmas Tree!
Our recent string of misfortunes left us with a car approximately the size of a footlocker. Despite this, my dad instincts would not allow me to forego obtaining a tree of a size befitting Miles's First Christmas©. With a winter storm approaching and limited time left between now and the holiday, I knew Saturday had … Continue reading Day 287: Baby’s First Christmas Tree!
