Year 3, Day 106

Ever the dutiful son, Miles has started helping set the tables for dinner each night, placing napkins and forks at...weirdly precise angles. Moments later, he reclaimed all of the napkins and threw them directly into the trash can. He may be going a bit overboard on the COVID-related sanitation measures.

Year 3, Day 105

When Miles merrily emerged from daycare this afternoon, I immediately noticed something was missing. His teacher preempted the question I was about to ask. "We tried to get Miles to wear his Band-Aid, but he just kept taking it off," she said, referring to the bandage that we've been keeping over his lip. "Miles!" I … Continue reading Year 3, Day 105 →

Year 3, Day 104

Miles isn't a fan of boo-boos or Band-Aids. Sometimes to get your kid to comply, you have to lead by example.

Year 3, Day 103

Miles hasn't quite figured this game out yet.

Year 3, Day 102

Last night around 9:30, we were doing our best to get Miles calmed down and ready for bed. Miles, on the other hand, was bouncing on the couch while singing, "Five Little Monkeys" at the top of his lungs ("I think he missed the point of that song," Jaclyn has observed during similar episodes). "Watch … Continue reading Year 3, Day 102 →

Year 3, Day 101

The route to Miles's daycare takes us past Target, something Miles has become acutely aware of. This morning, as we drove through midtown, Miles pointed out of his window."It's Target," he said."Yes, yes it is," I said."I wanna go to Target.""You want to go to Target?""Yes.""Do you need something from Target?""Yes." "Why do you want … Continue reading Year 3, Day 101 →

Year 3, Day 100

One of Miles's new favorite early morning activities: digging out ointments, baby powder, and other salves and arranging them on his rocking chair.

Year 3, Day 99

One of the joys of Facetiming with Papa is knowing that he'll pretend to eat a bluebird egg as many times as you want him to.

Year 3, Day 98

"Oh, he's mad at you."I heard Jaclyn's voice just a second before I heard Miles slam his bedroom door. My first thought: "What did I do?"As it turned out, Miles had been collecting his Duplo blocks in the middle of the living room floor and asking me to sit down and build "choo-choo train" out … Continue reading Year 3, Day 98 →

Year 3, Day 97

"Miles! It's dinnertime!" "Nono, go night-night!" I wish I could say this level of dinner avoidance was abnormal, but Miles will go to great lengths to convince us he doesn't need to sit down and eat.
