Year 4, Day 199

The opportunities the past two years have afforded us to see some of our closest family members have been greatly diminished, which has been difficult for a number of reasons, not the least of which is robbing Miles’s aunts, uncles, and grandparents of the chance to see him at various developmental stages. This weekend, however, brought with it a visit from my brother and sister-in-law, giving Miles an all-too-rare opportunity to play with his aunt and uncle (and goof off to a broader audience than he typically gets).

On the way to get ice cream, Miles flashes me a look that says, “I have replaced you. JEALOUS???”

Miles loves it when family members come over, probably because they’re not perpetually exhausted like Jaclyn and me and are way more willing to cater to Miles’s every playtime whim. For example, Curtis was more than willing to engage in a sword/lightsaber fight.

Later, Miles announced that Spider-Man was suffering from multiple maladies, from a hurt leg to “hot eyes,” and he and Curtis carted him from room to room (or “clinic” to “clinic”) as he slowly healed.

Christine even insisted on taking Miles to the park, which he’s always up for. Got him good and tuckered out, too!

And all that help allowed me to do this:

NOTHING looks less cool than a middle-aged white guy playing VR.
