On my way home from work tonight, I had my first legitimate phone conversation with Miles. After calling home to make sure Jaclyn had picked him up, she put him on the phone.
“Hi, Miles!”
“Daddy!”
“Did you have a good day at school?’
“eeeYES!”
“What did you do today?”
“…”
Then Jaclyn, in the background, said, “Tell him about your tree!”
“I make a tree!” Miles said.
“You made a tree??”
“With brown paper.”
“Well I can’t wait to see it! I’ll be home soon and you can show it to me.”
“Tell Daddy bye-bye and I love you,” Jaclyn coached.
“I love you,” he said.
Sure, it met only the most minimal of requirements to qualify as an actual “conversation,” but it was amazing to hear him respond — even with some sentences! — to what I was saying.
