Day Two

The realest moment of of those first few hours comes not when the actual birth happens, but (as with most major life turning points) when you wake up from your first post-birth sleep.

We we’re fortunate enough to have a nurse that kept the baby for a little extra time during his first bath, which gave us time to do a bit more than “doze off.” The first thing I remember hearing was the nurse coming back into the room asking Jaclyn about the last time the baby ate. “That’s okay, you can keep him a little longer,” she articulated, closer to unconsciousness than cogent thought.

You wake up fast, though.
