Nothing quite like ALMOST getting a kid to bed before realizing you need to prep Valentine's Day cards for his classmates tonight. WRITE FASTER, KID! Miles did a great job with it, all things considered, although he did start getting a little punchy as the process dragged on. If the crazed eyes don't sell it, … Continue reading Year 5, Day 353

Year 5, Day 350
I was brushing my teeth this morning when I heard something slide under the bathroom door. I glanced over and saw a piece of folded paper, but before I could step over to it, Miles just came in anyway (violating one of our house rules, but anyway...). "Daddy!" he said. "I made you this!" This … Continue reading Year 5, Day 350
Year 5, Day 338
"DADDY!" Miles called from downstairs. "CAN YOU GET THE THING THAT PRESSES??" The "thing that presses" that he was referring to was a stapler, and he was requesting it because he had completed the illustrations in his FIRST BOOK. Year 5, Day 296
Today, Miles composed (and/or dictated) his letter to Santa Claus. Never mind the fact that Miles has had at least two encounters with Santa already this holiday season; after all, you never know when last-minute inspiration will hit. Year 4, Day 354
Today was Valentine's Day, and Miles came home with a special message for us. I responded by giving him the gift I had picked up for him. This is the way...to your heart. I'm not sure how many couples with children out there still concern themselves with spending Valentine's Day exclusively with their spouses, but … Continue reading Year 4, Day 354
Year 4, Day 74
During some drawing/writing time this evening: Jaclyn: "What letter is that?" Miles: "What is it?" Jaclyn: "You tell me!" Miles: "No, YOU tell ME!" Later, to prove he knows some of his letters, he insisted on adding a 'h' to my name. I've got to hand it to him. Most people forget the 'h.'
Year 4, Day 7
Miles and Mommy were hard at work tagging Blue Blaze Brewing's patio this evening. They brought their own sidewalk chalk.
