As much as my heart melts when Miles smiles at me every afternoon when I walk into daycare, I've got to be completely honest -- nothing comes close to seeing him smile at Jaclyn when he sees her. They're really two distinct smiles. When Miles smiles at me, it's a smile that says, "Oh boy, … Continue reading Day 236

Day 235
Jaclyn had a salon appointment tonight, which didn't sound like a particularly fun way for Miles and me to spend our evening. I clearly underestimated Miles's affinity for plush leather chairs.
Day 234
For the last seven months, there's been this weird feeling in the back of my mind every time I've heard Jaclyn's breast pump operating. The sound reminded me of something, but I just couldn't figure out what. Tonight, it dawned on me.
Day 233: Sounds of the Night-time IV
Until our move last week, Miles has spent his nights sharing a room with us. While there's something really wonderful about hearing him breathing or rolling over during the night, Jaclyn and I were both ready to reclaim our space (and give Miles room to accommodate all of his stuff). Now that Miles has his … Continue reading Day 233: Sounds of the Night-time IV
Day 232
The past couple of days have seen Miles develop his first real cold. Characterized by perpetual runny nose and increased fussiness (symptoms that, come to think of it, don't differ all too much from his father's), the cold was in full swing yesterday and today. Fortunately, he's still been sleeping relatively well. Unfortunately (for Miles, … Continue reading Day 232
Day 231
"I think Miles just discovered he has a wiener." - Jaclyn during bathtime
Day 230
Today, we took a trip to south Charlotte to visit Hall Family Farm with friends. It was Miles's first time around pumpkins. Miles wasn't able to partake of many of the activities there, but he did seem to enjoy watching some of the older kids run around. And we were able to stop for a … Continue reading Day 230
Day 229
Another big food milestone today, as Miles tried peanut butter for the first time! Mixed in with his baby oatmeal, he seemed to really get into it and, most importantly, forego any allergic reactions. Oh, and he's discovered a love of bananas. Maybe he is my son after all!
Day 228
Do you think that kids can see things adults can't? Like...ghosts? I ask because sometimes Miles becomes completely transfixed on wholly uninteresting parts of the room. Just...walls. Specifically corners. And when I say "transfixed," I mean that nothing can successfully break his gaze short of physically removing him from the area. Otherwise, he'll stare and … Continue reading Day 228
Day 227
Today, we got the call every parent dreads -- the midday call from daycare. We trust the folks at Miles's daycare. They exist specifically to provide childcare and development. Hell, they're technically more qualified than we are. And that's why that call is such a big deal -- it means something has happened that we … Continue reading Day 227
