Year 5, Day 249

Maybe it was restlessness. Maybe he missed us. Maybe there were some lingering Halloween-related jitters. Whatever the cause, Miles came into our bedroom in the middle of the night. While this happens semi-regularly, tonight it was particularly disruptive, as the first thing he did upon stepping into the room was to turn the lights on.

“ARRRGH!” Jaclyn and I both called out, sounding like an unrehearsed chorus. “TURN THAT OFF, MILES!”

He complied, and we went back to sleep.

When I awoke in the morning, I found that Miles had climbed into bed with us, bringing with him, as usual, a few stuffed animals.

On the floor, I saw that he had also brought a book in the hopes we would…read to him a four in the morning?

But perhaps most delightful, after we had admonished him for turning on the lights, Miles had gone back to his room and returned with a solution.

It’s fun to see this kid’s ingenuity at work, even if it means sacrificing half on my space on the bed.
