A couple weeks ago, Miles spent ten days home from school fighting a persistent cold. As often happens in such circumstances, I have now found myself suffering from the same ailments for nearly two weeks.
Miles had climbed into bed with us this morning, and I awoke to a fit of congestion and coughing. Where he had been all cuddles a moment earlier, he now turned away from me, refusing to look back even after the fit had subsided.
“What’s the deal?” I asked him.
“Don’t get close to me or you’re gonna make ME sick!” he exclaimed.
“Miles,” I said flatly, “you’re the one who got me sick!”
“Wha?” he asked. “How??”
I guess illness is a one-way street when you’re a kid.
