Miles was chipper on the drive home today, especially after we stopped to pick mom up on our way. Jaclyn and I both knew that his babysitter would be seeing him tonight, and as we approached the house, I asked him a few questions to prime him for an evening with Lisa.
“Do you love mommy?”
Miles nodded.
“Do you love daddy?”
Again, a nod.
“Are you going to see Lisa?”
He shook his head “no.”
“Is Lisa your friend?”
He shook his head again.
It’s the same dance every week: Miles acts all put-out about Lisa, downplaying his adoration of her with this “tough baby” attitude. But soon enough, he’s laughing, playing, and eating, seemingly having forgotten all about mommy and daddy. Heck, I could barely get any acknowledgement from him at all as I left tonight. He may love seeing Jaclyn and me, but as soon as it’s all cottage cheese and bubbles, we’re yesterday’s news.
