I had to make a short trip to my workplace today to pick up a few supplies, and I thought it would also serve as a nice chance to get Miles out of the house (and out of his mother's hair) for a little while. As you might (or might not) know, I work with … Continue reading Year 3, Day 76

Year 3, Day 75
Today, Miles got to celebrate another Mother's Day with his beloved mommy... ...and he also got to discover a new love...when he consumed his first Happy Meal.
Year 3, Day 74
Jaclyn came home from grocery shopping today with several bags to unload. Miles, being a dutiful son, decided to help her unpack it all... ...right in front of the door, on the opposite end of the house from the kitchen.
Year 3, Day 73
Jaclyn: "Do you want pizza for dinner?" Miles: "Yep." Jaclyn: "What do you want on your pizza?" Miles: "Birthday candles."
Year 3, Day 72
During another battle to coax Miles into napping today, we put him in his room and closed the door for "quiet time." We could hear him playing around for a while, but eventually things fell silent. I wanted to duck my head into his room to make sure he was sleeping and, well, couldn't quite … Continue reading Year 3, Day 72
Year 3, Day 71
I was recently listening to Elmer Bernstein's Ghostbusters score and I flipped the cover around to show Miles the backside, which features a large illustration of Slimer, the delightful green blob. Miles pointed at Slimer. "Huh," he said, which he does whenever he recognizes something but can't recall the word for it. "It's a ghost," … Continue reading Year 3, Day 71
Year 3, Day 70
As I've written about previously, Miles has a complicated relationship with his regular babysitter, Lisa. As we've moved farther and farther into coronavirus isolation, Miles has had to start contending with these feelings in more visible ways. It seems he's being a bit more honest with himself (and us) now about the degree to which … Continue reading Year 3, Day 70
Year 3, Day 69
Miles loves spending time outside, and one of his absolute favorite things to do outside at the moment is playing with bubbles. It's hard to even get out the door without Miles insisting we also bring some bubbles along. And, to be fair, I really can't think of any situation bubbles haven't improved, so he … Continue reading Year 3, Day 69
Year 3, Day 68
Jaclyn came home from the store today with a present for Miles that is sure to set him on the inevitable path to, like his father, essentially becoming Charlie Brown. He doesn't understand what a "kite" is yet or exactly what it is we're trying to do with it. All he knows is Woody and … Continue reading Year 3, Day 68
Year 3, Day 67
Sometimes I walk into Miles's bedroom after he's spent some quiet time in there and I just have to wonder, "What is this kid even doing?"
