Day 332

Even before Miles was born, Jaclyn and I talked about wanting to expose our child to different languages from an early age. This is one of the reasons we were excited to find a babysitter who speaks German, a language we became very familiar with a few years ago. Miles now has a decent variety of German-language books, a library that gets added to periodically.

You might expect children’s books to look relatively similar language to language. And yet, these German books still find ways to surprise me once in a while. Here are a few pages from a recent acquisition to illustrate my point.

Okay, I get it. This is the sound that cars make.

Checks out. Definitely the sound of a cuckoo clock.

…and this is the sound of a…snail?
IMG_20190127_193635
Why is it screaming at me??
IMG_20190127_193646
Uhhh…

Yes, the sound of a DUCK comes AFTER the sound of a handgun. …actually, now that I think about it, this makes sense.
